Mercedes has been offering the EQS as a sedan since August last year. The Stuttgart-based automotive group has now presented the EQS SUV and is marketing the car as a newly defined luxury SUV. At the start, the electric car will be available in three versions in the second half of 2022. In the cheapest form with rear-wheel drive (EQS SUV 450+), but of course also with all-wheel drive on request (EQS SUV 450 4Matic & EQS SUV 580 4Matic).
Mercedes EQS SUV: Up to 544 hp
The output of the three new Mercedes SUVs with electric drives is 265 (450+ & 450 4Matic) or 400 kW, depending on the model selected. This corresponds to the equivalent of 360 or 544 hp. The maximum available torque is 568, 800 or even 858 Nm. The integrated on-board charger charges at AC charging stations or via a wall box with up to 11 kW as standard. Mercedes also offers charging with up to 22 kW as an option. According to the manufacturer, charging with up to 200 kW is supported at fast charging stations. In the best case, the almost 108 kWh battery can be recharged in 31 minutes.
According to the WLTP standard, the power consumption of the Mercedes EQS SUV with rear-wheel drive is 18.6 to 23 kWh per 100 kilometers. If you opt for one of the two all-wheel drive models, you have to factor in 20 to 24 kWh over the same route. That's enough for the SUV model with rear-wheel drive for a range of 536 to 660 kilometers, while the four-wheel drive models have a range of 507 to 613 kilometers. If you drive a lot in city traffic and use recuperation so often, you can benefit from longer ranges.

Optionally up to seven seats
Mercedes also wants to make the EQS SUV attractive to potential buyers by the fact that it can be used not only on paved roads, but also on light terrain. The vehicle is equipped with an intelligent off-road driving program for this purpose. Compared to the EQS sedan, the wheelbase of the EQS SUV has grown by more than 20 centimeters to 3.21 meters. The new E-SUV from Mercedes is around 5.10 meters long and 1.95 meters wide. Two rows of seats are used as standard, but a third row of seats with two additional individual seats is also available on request. However, it is intended more for children or young people than for adults.
The EQS SUV has rear axle steering with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees as standard. As an optional extra, up to 10 degrees are even possible via the rear steering. The turning circle is reduced from 11.9 to 11 meters with the 10-degree steering. Also available as special equipment in the interior is the MBUX Hyperscreen, which is also familiar from the EQS sedan. Then several screens merge seamlessly into one another, resulting in a curved screen band over 141 centimeters wide. This corresponds to the equivalent of almost 56 inches.
In the interior, the Mercedes EQS SUV offers the huge hyperscreen as an option.
The leather volume is 645 liters – with the rear seats folded down there are up to 2,100 liters. You won't find such a volume in a station wagon. A trailer hitch is available as an option. Then it is possible to tow up to 1.8 tons. But you should be aware that the maximum possible range then drops considerably.
How much does the Mercedes EQS SUV cost?
The manufacturer has not yet revealed a price for the Mercedes EQS SUV. But you can assume at least 100,000 euros. The market launch is scheduled for the second half of 2022.
