Artificial intelligence to develop a racing hypercar

To street cars

Since the start of the 9X8 circuit test program in December, Peugeot has focused on accelerating the development of the car – including its fully electrified mechanics and transmission – to later enable road car drivers to benefit from this research work. and progress, highlighting the 9X8 as the flagship of Peugeot's values, which are: Allure, Emotion and Excellence.

Capgemini Sports Sponsorship

The partnership also fits perfectly with Capgemini's global sports sponsorship strategy, which seeks to not only extol the concepts of team spirit and fearlessness through its partnerships with major sporting brands and events around the world (including World Cups men's and women's rugby and the Ryder Cup golf), but also contribute its advanced tools and technological expertise to improve the results and the experience of the fans.

Involvement in competition

Peugeot's involvement in competition is due, above all, to the fact that it is a formidable laboratory of ideas and a fantastic accelerator of innovation. For all the professions involved, motorsport explores new territories that drive us to be increasingly original and creative in our approach.

Without spoiler

The most striking feature of this concept, and that for many sums it up, is the absence of a rear spoiler, and what gives it its unique morphology.

Le Mans heritage

The rear wing first appeared in endurance racing at Le Mans in 1967 and has since become commonplace. Since 1971, more than 50 years ago, no car has won without a rear wing. This shows the audacity and creativity of Peugeot's designers and engineers.

Electric propulsion

The French manufacturer has already won at Le Mans with two cars from two different generations: the 905 with a V10 petrol engine in 1992 and 1993, and the 908 with a V12 HDi-FAP engine in 2009. Once again, with the technology used, the 9X8 marks the beginning of a new era. "The endurance races are based on rules that allow us to demonstrate Peugeot's expertise in all electric drive systems," explains Olivier Jansonnie, technical director of the project.

Hybrid

Due to its four-wheel drive hybrid propulsion, the 9X8 has certain similarities with various models in the Peugeot range, such as the 3008 or the 508. It combines a 2.6-litre V6 biturbo internal combustion engine with 680 hp in the area rear with a 270 hp electric motor/generator at the front.

Kryptonite

Likewise, "we wanted to express this technological and cultural change with a new color signature, which we have called Kryptonite", emphasizes Matthias Hossann. "Shortly before, our 9X8 Hybrid Hypercar had been seen in the new series model, also a hybrid, the 508 PSE (Peugeot Sport Engineering). It shares many technological features with the 9X8, in addition to its color. Within a few weeks of difference Both have taken PEUGEOT into the era of high-performance electrification."

I-Cockpit

Another hallmark of Peugeot's expertise and style is evident in the 9X8's cabin, which is based on the brand's signature concept: the i-Cockpit. As in the case of a production model project, the care put into the design of the interior has only been matched by the exacting level of the exterior.

Light signature

We would also like to highlight its light signature. "To ensure that the 9X8 is unlike any other and can be easily identified day and night by all, we have added light components to our work on its silhouette. For its light signature, the three claws, present on all our cars stock, the choice was obvious. We didn't have much trouble getting them to the front of our 9X8 Hypercar, but getting them to the back did take a lot of work. We've integrated the three illuminated claws into separate composite components, creating a few spaces to through which the air is extracted. We can't wait to see its effect on the circuits," adds Jansonnie.
