BioWare: Dragon Age Next is "in the middle of its production", Mass Effect Next still at the prototype stage…

The development of Dragon Age Next is progressing and Gary McKay wanted to let us know. That of Mass Effect Next, on the other hand, will take longer.
Rumors are that BioWare is on track to deliver its Dragon Age Next in the second half of 2023. It's not yet time to give a date or even a release period on the side of BioWare, but the General Manager Gary McKay has decided to communicate officially on the project.
Thus, he declares that the next Dragon Age is far from finished, but is "in the middle of its production". He is counting on an experienced team to offer a game that meets the expectations of the community and promises to give more concrete news during the year 2022. Will he manage to deliver it next year as the do some hope? Still, the future of the project will be without Christian Dailey: like others before him, the executive producer who joined the company in 2018 has decided to leave the ship…
And Mass Effect Next? The team led by Mike Gamble is currently only "actively prototyping new ideas and experiences", which proves that development is far from advanced…

Hello,

Last month you heard from me as we looked back to 2021 and looked towards 2022 with the goal of communicating more often with our community and fans around the world. With that in mind, let's start with the next game in development: the new Dragon Age.
As you may know, there are several stages in the development of a game. The first are the design and pre-production phases, when a team works on the creative vision for the game and begins to lay the technical groundwork – essentially creating the concept and technology blueprint for the game. Iteration and flexibility are essential here, as ideas and gameplay mechanics are offered, tested, and refined. Once the plan is complete, the production phase begins. Production is about executing the plan: taking those ideas and turning them into a working game. Eventually, a team does an Alpha and then a Beta, where the polish happens, and the things that are special really come to life.
For the next Dragon Age, we're right in the middle of production, which is a great feeling. Our plan was completed last year, so we're now focused on crafting our vision: creating amazing environments, deep characters, strong gameplay, impactful writing, emotionally charged cutscenes – and much more. . The blueprint of the game is well understood and the team is focused.
As we continue our journey, we wanted to wish Christian Dailey a heartfelt farewell from BioWare. Christian started with us in 2018 and has been a big influence on our games and our management team, most recently as an executive producer on the development of Dragon Age. The games industry is constantly changing and sometimes people want to try new things – we understand, but we will miss him as a friend and as a colleague.
A strong management team of industry and Dragon Age veterans is in place to support us throughout production and beyond. The game's production manager is Mac Walters, who most recently led development on Mass Effect Legendary Edition and has an 18-year history with BioWare. Corrine Busche, who led the design direction of Dragon Age, is our Game Director. She has a wealth of experience, including 15 years at EA, and a passion for the franchise. Benoit Houle is the Director of Product Development, and he brings a deep understanding of the franchise through his work on every Dragon Age game – starting over 16 years ago on Dragon Age: Origins. I will also be working more closely with the Dragon Age team throughout production while continuing to guide the studio.
Later this year, you'll start to hear more from the Dragon Age team in the form of blogs and social content. As we move forward with development, we will also be in regular communication with the players who sit on our Community Council. As passionate fans like you, we take their feedback seriously. We're also listening when you share your thoughts and experiences, so keep talking to us!
On other fronts, our Star Wars: The Old Republic team, led by Keith Kanneg, recently celebrated 10 years of incredible storytelling with the launch of our latest expansion, Legacy of the Sith. The team didn't stop at the launch of the expansion and is already focusing on other updates to continue the celebration throughout the year. You can see our launch trailer for the new version here; which was a creative collaboration with Industrial Light and Magic, and we absolutely love it.
And of course we are also working on the next Mass Effect. The team, led by Mike Gamble, is made up of a team of veteran developers as well as some very talented new people. They are all actively prototyping new ideas and experiences. Next-gen AAA games take a long time to make – and we know our fans might want them sooner. But our number one priority has to be quality, and it just takes time to get it right.
As we embark on a new year of adventures, we are excited to share more with you. Until then, thank you once again to all our fans. To a great year 2022!

Be well,

Gary McKay

BioWare is taking its time not to replicate the failures of Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem, hopefully its efforts pay off. Until then, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available from €34.99 on Amazon.fr.
